What is a Life Coach?

…compared to a consultant, mentor, and therapist.

Life Coaches are often confused with other self-help roles such as mentor, consultant, and therapist. Let’s break down the definition of each and how they function in the personal growth and development space.

  1. Coach vs Consultant. A Consultant gives specific advice based on their judgment and analysis of your situation. A Coach guides you to explore your options, find your truth and decide on which path resonates best with you.

  2. Coach vs Mentor. A Mentor is a hierarchical role where they have been on the exact same path as you desire and are directing you to follow the same path. A Coach is an equal partner (non-hierarchical) who is an expert in personal growth and self-mastery who guides you to follow your own unique path.

  3. Coach vs Therapist. A Therapist looks for problems to solve in their patient. They diagnose deficiencies from the theory that their patient is in need of fixing. A Coach views their client as whole and complete. They believe YOU are the expert in your own life and YOU have all the answers within you.

As a certified life coach, I’ve worked with clients who’ve had consultants, mentors, and therapists; and worked in conjunction with them to create my client’s vision of success. Anyone who desires to make a change in their life will find it beneficial to work with a life coach.

As your life coach, I will:

• Guide you to discover your best self.

• Show you techniques, develop strategies, and monitor your progress.

• Anticipate and prepare you for life’s challenges and opportunities.

• Instill motivation through accountability, expertise, communication, and accelerating progress.
